I embroidered these big red pillows for Lam’s mother in celebration of Valentine’s Day and the Lunar New Year, since both holidays fall on the same day this year, February 14th! I embroidered two 20″ x 20″ pillowcases from Ikea and folded them to take the pictures below to focus on the embroidery. I couldn’t transfer the patterns onto the red soft-canvas-like pillowcase, so I free-handed the designs and drew them larger with a water soluble pen to be about 16″ x 16″ to fit nice and centered on the large pillowcases.
This beautiful Peacocks pattern is from Sublime Stitching‘s book Embroidered Effects.

Peacocks close up~ I looove the lazy feather stitch!

And this is from a free pattern by Badbird.

Close up on the stitching~

I worked on them for weeks, mostly finishing the peacock one while kinda watching the Super Bowl, and Lam shipped them to his mother this morning! I hope she likes them! I haven’t embroidered anything this big for over a year!

Wow – the colours of the threads really ‘pop’ on the red fabric! I just bought Embroidered Effects and I think the peacock is my fave stitchery from the whole book – will have to go some to produce anything as cool as this though, but am definitely inspired! Jen x
